October 18, 2008--- 4th night on the car and we did some changes and traveled to TST. We were running 3rd and Kevin slid off the top of turn 4 on the white flag lap and ended up 12th. When he came in we found the right rear tire had lost air pressure which probably helped cause the car not to bite and slide off.
October 17, 2008--- 3rd night on the new car. We traveled to Magnolia Speedway for a 2500 to win show and from the start we had problems with the car not wanting to get any sidebite. We qualified out of the top 12 so we decided to pack it up and head home. We wanted to change some things and try TST sat night.
October 4th, 2008--- 2nd night on the new car and we ended the night 2nd with a seventeen car field. We were not going to TST Sat, around 3:00 Kevin and I decided to carry the car back and make some changes. We needed to know how the car would react(good or bad). When we arrived at the race track changes were a plenty and the notes were being made, something was changed every time the car went on the track. The car responded and the driver could feel every change made. Now as far as the race went Kevin was working the top of the racetrack and was going for the lead and a late race caution flew which allowed the leader to change lanes and take kevin's line. With only a few laps left we finished 2nd.
October 3rd, 2008--- 1st time out with the 2009 Larry Shaw chassis, Kevin left for hot laps and did not have any rear brakes which mean hot laps were useless. We bled the brakes and thought we had it repaired, started the heat race 2nd and ran second but Kevin still had to pump the brakes. The car was loose getting into the corner which hampered the exit off the corner. We replaced the master cylinder for the rear brakes and corrected the brake problem but we did not have time to make any changes to the setup. Kevin started 4th for the feature and finished 5th but the car was loose entering the corner which caused a loose off the corner condition. Overall the new car seemed to have alot of potential.
April 12, 2008--- 1st race--Green Valley Speedway-- The night started bad with the crankshaft bolt becoming loose and getting into the fan during track drying. The engine belongs to my nephew (ours is still at the engine shop). Left valve cover was leaking and the oil was filled with methanol, plus the crank bolt was loose. We repaired all of the above but did not get any hot laps so the feature was our first laps at speed. Started 6th and Kevin moved up on the race track and went to the lead and stayed there until the last caution and on the restart He left too much of the top open and Jimmy Heitt passed him for the lead, Kevin finished 2nd. When Kevin came off the track the bolt had backed out again and stopped the fan enough that the car was spitting out water from overheating. I would like to applaud all the modified drivers for putting on the best show of the night.
April 24, 2008--- 2nd race--Green Valley Speedway--The night started with a short hot lap session at above 7:00 and we did not race until 12:00 Long wait not worth the trouble. The track really needs some organization. Kevin started 6th and gott hung behind a slower car (track was one lane) He finally got around and was catching the top 3 which had gotten away. The track came on the raceceiver and shorten the race by 5 laps which could have meant a different finish. We ended the night with in 4th place.
May 3, 2008--- Finally, a feature win but Chad's engine we have borrowed blew up on the final lap. Kevin started 3rd row inside and got to 2nd and was starting to slowly catch the 98 car who had jumped to an early lead. I don't think we could have passed him but he a had a flat left rear and spun the car. Racing luck is part of the equation. I was worried about Jimmy Hiett on the restart but the little engine started pulling away and the last 2 laps it was spitting water out of the overflow. Kevin cut it off at the scales, the temp was 280 degrees, he was pushed to victory lane and it has not started since. (RIP old faithful). We finally have gotten our engine from the machine shop and if everything goes well I should have it together before the next race. I hated to kill Chad,s engine but it did WIN on it,s last night.
May 17, 2008--- New engine break in, started outside 2nd row got hung up behind the car that started outside front row. That allowed the inside row to get ahead by a large margin. Kevin was making the quickest laps of the field but the track was 1 lane he pasted the 2nd place car and was trying to get around the leader and ended the race in 3rd. The top 3 cars finished side-by-side at the finish line 3 seconds ahead of 4th. We will be traveling to Columbus Ms this weekend to race at Columbus Sat and Magnolia Sun.
May 24, 2008--- Columbus Speedway Ms. Qualified 9th out of 32 cars, we were commited to the bottom of the track and was holding our own and the car began to go away and running hot. Found a right front shock busted and had an over heating problem. Finished in 12th position.
May 25, 2008--- Magnolia Speedway Columbus Ms. Qualified 12th out of 34 cars. Did not start the feature after discovering the radiator is restricted. We did not want to damage the new engine. We will have to get a new radiator and send our QA1 shocks for repair.
June 28, 2008--- Green Valley Speedway Drew 9th starting position, with no heat race and only 3 hot laps, Kevin started the feature on the tail of the field and made his way to 3rd. The tires were used up and he couldn't do anything with the top 2 cars.
July 5, 2008--- Green Valley Speedway Finally got to quailfy and only got 1 lap because of a distributor failure and still qualified 3rd out of 25 cars. I messed up and changed the gear, I was still afraid of the car running hot, this messed Kevin up on the starts. He fell back to 9th and worked his way back to 5th. All in all it was the first big show we have been able to finish, so it was like a win.
