Ice Bowl Jan. 8 2007. Kevin won his heat and started 3rd in the feature. He moved up top and hooked a rut in turn 2 which kicked the right rear spring out of the bucket and the car got almost to tight to turn into the corner. We ended up 9th. The finish was not what we wanted but 9th out of 49 total cars is not a bad way to start 2007. We brought the car home in one piece which is a plus.
4/21/2007 1st Win of 2007 in the 1st race of 07. Kevin started 9th in the heat and won the race with a last lap pass. He started 9th in the feature and took the lead on lap 12 and never looked back. Win number 1 of the season.
4/27 and 4/28 Dry track and we sucked enough said. We are doing some major changes this week to try and get better on slick racing surfaces. IMCA points and we started toward the rear all weekend and couldn't pass.
5//05 Found the problem with the car last week. Kevin started 4th in the heat and won the heat. Kevin started 4th in the feature and took the lead coming out of turn 2 on the first lap, He finished 1st by a straight away.
5/12/07 Started heat 5th and won the heat. Started the main 6th and the car did not want to stay in the bottom, Kevin got trapped behind a car on the top, by the time he got around the car 2nd was as far as he could get. He just ran out of laps. 2nd is pretty respectable, wanted first but out of 4 weekends, 2 1st and a 2nd is good.
5/19/07 Great ending to a bad night. Kevin was leading the heat race and the rearend yoke broke. Rear end, driveshaft, and front yoke damaged. We replaced the rear gear assy and the u-joints and the front yoke, started 2nd row inside and Kevin took the lead on the first lap and led every lap. The car had a vibration the whole race, so I will have to order a driveshaft Monday. Another win!!
5/26/07 Started 3rd row outside in the heat and finished 2nd. Started 4 row outside in the feature and was in the lead on lap 3 and never looked back. Another win!!
6/2/07 Feature Win.
6/9/07 Feature Win, But disqualified because we would not sell our engine and shocks. Okay I have dropped myself down to their level long enough for all involved to read. I would like to apologize to all of our fateful fans. I will be posting where we will be racing. Starting week after next Teresa and Whitney will be drawing a race track out of a hat determining where we will race. I can assure you all it will not be IMCA, that way we will not have to always start behind junk. But I do appreciate the compliment of you thinking we had to be wrong to be so good, but we weren't. When a good driver, good car, and alot of hard work come together it results in good finishes Thanks to Larry Shaw Racecars!!
6/23/07 River Valley Speedway Not a bad night finished 3rd in the heat and 4th in the feature. It was a learning night. I missed the gear and we needed alittle more wedge in the car but we had never seen the track so we were hesistant to change. Kevin was beside the leader challenging for the lead and bobbled which allowed 2 cars to pass. Like I have always told him "I had rather loose spots trying to win than following the leader." No excuses, 25 total laps on the track and a 4th place finish not bad, watch out next trip!!
7/20/07 New engine in car with new graphics (will post pics later)
7/21/07 River Valley Speedway Started the feature 8th and finished 5th. The new powerplant was too good, we overpowered the race track. The new found power was causing Kevin to spin off the corner but was a rocket down the straights, I probably should have raised the gearing a few points and took a little timing out of the engine. All in all a good night with minimal body damage and good performance from the engine.
7/28/07 Moulton Speedway Qualified 3rd and finished 2nd in the feature. It was our first time to see the track and we got a hold of the track quick we just needed alittle more traction. The car was a little loose toward the end of the race. All in all for the first trip I was well pleased and the people at the track were real friendly.
8/03/07 North Alabama Speedway Set fast time and lead the first 5 laps, was pulling away and something in the transmission let go. The good note was setting fast time against the local hotshoes.
8/17/07 North Alabama Rained Out
8/18/07 Moulton track was junk and they decided to heat race rather than qualify. Started toward the rear of the field behind some slower cars and the car got tight which caused an understeer from the center of the corner off. The result was Kevin dropped the right side off the top of the track, with the design of the track the right rear slid off the hump and the frame hooked causing the car to barrell roll 2 times and ended up on the right side during the third roll. Kevin was ok and we really want know about the car until we get the smashed body off. The main thing is all the safety equipment worked and the driver was not hurt, thanks to the workmanship of Larry Shaw Racecars. On another note I have never witnessed a track that allowed so many to cause a caution and go to the pits and return to their spots in the race as last night. The show of favoritism was not during our race but the super late model race. This really changed my way of thinking of the track officials. All tracks need walls all the way around, we would have been better off hitting the wall than running off the track.
8/31/07 North Alabama Speedway Quick Time and led from start to finish. Quailfied 15:83 and the next one close was a 16:06.
9/02/07 Magnolia Speedway Whew! talk about "Black Ice" We went out for hot laps and Kevin could not touch the race track anywhere. Changed some things and he qualified 7th out of 33 cars (good considering the only other time we have been there we did not make the show). Feature started and I found out we did not change enough, Kevin got punted out of the bottom and backed up several spots. He worked his way back to 11th for the finish. We will return and gain some control over this "Black Ice" race track. We have been there twice and gotten better, we will be even better the next time.
9/08/07 Moulton Speedway
Well, we returned to the site of the flip. We did not qualify but drew for heat races and with our good luck (as it is) we drew next to the back row in the second heat (5th). Race track was slick and we were trying some different ideas and Kevin came to 3rd for the finish of the heat. This provided us with a 5th starting position in the feature.
We changed some things and tried to get the car to work in the bottom since the top was where the front rows were going. On the start Kevin drove the car into the middle and passed several, He was working the bottom and passing cars when the caution flew, the track put him behind the third place car for the restart ( I think we should have been in front of him) anyway on the restart the 3rd place car drove to the bottom to block and Kevin had to spend several laps getting around him on the top (we didn't have the car set for the top) and in the process abused the tires. He finally passed the 2nd place car but didn't have enough tires left to get around the leader.
Both the front runners started on the front row in the heat and the main.
On a side note, we had some friends go with us. The Jeff and Jay show brought the 35 car on a road trip. They had some brake problems which resulted in a poor showing, if not for that I believe they would have been up toward the front with us. The good part about their road trip it prevented them from having the problem at TST monday night. I don't think the regulars down there are going to like them very much in the coming weeks. LOL
9/15/07
Finished 2nd in the feature. Gotta give credit to the 12 car, he is at Moulton what we were at TST. The cautions hurt us last night, the longer the run Kevin would start pulling along side using the bottom but when the caution fell the 12 car could cool his tires and utilize the top of the race track to gain a car link or so. About the time Kevin would start making some head way the caution would fall again.
We finally got the car too tight and Kevin was driving the car in harder on the bottom than he ever has, He moved up for a couple of laps and nearly tore the wall down in 3 and 4. He and the 12 car had enough lead that when he bounced off the wall he still had enough lead that 3rd place did not pressure him at all.
We will begin to prep the building so that we may open our new repair shop Oct 1 therefore racing will take a back burner for a while.
Right now we are thinking about prepping the car and returning to TST after the IMCA points are over. Don't think they will like us at all now. But it has been alot more fun getting out the "little Peyton Place" and racing with some really good people that love good hard racing, I don't think we will ever become a "regular" anywhere again. We do not care about point racing, we accomplished all that when Kevin was 16 years old and don't need to do that again even though we could.
